Fan alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball game #2: top of the first inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '01 Volcanoes and the '08 Volcanoes.

So here we go fans, top of the first inning at wonderful Volcanoes Stadium; a perfect late afternoon for baseball. For Volcanoes Watching, I am Justin Lacche. Another sold out fantasy baseball exhibition here; great to see our fans, loyal season ticket holders, corporate sponsors and all the corporate outings here today. Fans remember, get in on the action, visit the Volcanoes official site at http://www.volcanoesbaseball.com/ for more information. Volcanoes baseball - champions start here.

On the mound for the '01 Volcanoes is the very talented Francisco Liriano; the pride of San Cristobol, Dominican Republic. The lefty stands in at 6'2". Catching Liriano today is Keith Anderson. And without further delay, here we go, the second game of the Volcanoes Fantasy Baseball League; batting first for the '08 Volcanoes is Vladimir Frias, the shortstop stands 6'2" and hails from Los Alcanzzas, Dominic Republic. Anderson with the sign; Liriano with the delivery and we are underway; swing and a miss strike 1. 0-1 on Frias.

It will be very interesting to see how effective the '08 Volcanoes will be early on against Liriano who is scheduled to go between four and six innings today. Anderson with the sign and the 0-1 offering from Liriano; caught the outside of the corner, strike 2; 0-2 on Frias. Liriano had about a 3:1 strike out to walk ratio in '01 with the Volcanoes but his ERA was 3.63 so he can be hit; Anderson with the sign and the 0-2; high and side, ball 1. 1-2 on Frias. Frias takes a deep breath and a short practice swing. Liriano stands in; Anderson with the sign and the 1-2 pitch from Liriano; swing and a miss strike 3. Frias down on strikes. One down here in the top of the first inning.

Fans, remember, if you truly want to give a special gift this holiday season, give your loved one tickets and official gear from the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The shop is open daily at Volcanoes Stadium through Christmas, and folks it is loaded with wonderful gear, outfits, collectibles and more. Go down to the shop today; you won't be disappointed.

Batting second for the '08 Volcanoes is Ryan Lormand; the 6'0" Lormand hails from Lafayette, Louisiana. Lormand stands in, Anderson with the sign and the initial offering from Liriano; way low, ball one. 1-0 on Lormand. Like always, great energy here at Volcanoes Stadium; if you love real, family friendly professional baseball where players are working hard to reach their sports dreams, this is the best ticket in Oregon. Period.

Anderson with the sign and the 0-1 delivery to Lormand; just outside, ball 2. 2-0 on Lormand. Let's see if Liriano can settle down here early; the pace picking up now; Anderson with the sign and the 2-0 pitch; Lormand hits a chopper to short; Miguel Miranda fields it cleanly and throws to first; two down here in the top of the first inning.

Batting third for the '08 Volcanoes is first baseman, Caleb Curry. The 6'0" Curry hails from Alexandria, Minnesota. Anderson with the sign and the first delivery from Liriano; fouls straight back; strike 1. I'd say, overall Liriano looks relaxed on the mound tonight; it is only an exhibition but he is playing one of the great Volcanoes teams in franchise history. So first-pitch strikes will be the premium.

Anderson with the sign and the 0-1 pitch -- swing and a miss strike 2. 0-2 on Curry; it isn't a surprise throughout this fantasy season that we are going to see strong Volcanoes pitching; every team in this league made the Northwest League playoffs and five of seven won the pennant. Curry calls time as Liriano stood frozen just a second longer than the batsmen's comfort level.

Now Curry stands back in; Anderson with the call and the 0-2 pitch; swung in the dirt, strike 3; nasty, very nasty curve ball from Liriano and the side is retired. Three up and three down, the ball never left the infield and as we go to the bottom of the first, the score is the '08 Volcanoes 0, the '01 Volcanoes coming to bat.

Now for a few words from our loyal sponsors.

Fan Alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball bottom of the ninth inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '06 Volcanoes and the '98 Volcanoes.

Two teams; two championship teams - two historic Salem-Keizer Volcanoes teams have come together for this fantasy baseball exhibition game and it comes down to the bottom of the ninth inning here at wonderful Volcanoes Stadium. The story line at the surface seems rather cut and dry: the '98 Volcanoes need to score 4 to force extra innings, 5 to win the game. On the other side, the '06 Volcanoes are three outs a way from a great victory. But of course, there is something more at stake.

Folks it isn't a misprint on the stadium scoreboard nor in the box scores for those following at home; so far the '98 Volcanoes have sent 24 men to the plate and 24 straight have been retired; it started with Tim Lincecum, then Jesse English and now here in the ninth, skipper Steve Decker gives the reigns of this magnificient effort to the closer, the man of the hour, Juan Trinidad. The 6'3" righty from San Cristobol, Dominican Republic; Trinidad is all of 20 years old and led the '06 Volcanoes in saves (16).

All 4,100 fans are on their feet; supporting both Volcanoes teams and soaking up every moment, every nuance of this historic fantasy exhibition. Trindad finishes up his warm up and the '98 Volcanoes sends catcher, Sammy Serrano to the plate. Trinidad takes a long, deep breath, looks to the sky and gets set. Witter with the sign and the first delivery -- swing and a miss strike 1. 0-1 on Serrano.

It seems like 800 camera flashes went off on that pitch alone. Folks, I can barely breathe myself and I'm sitting up here in the booth. Witter with the sign and the 0-1 pitch to Serrano; fouled straight back 0-2. Both teams are all standing. Lincecum and English are cheering their fellow pitcher from the '06 dugout. Witter with the sign and the 0-2 pitch to Serrano - got him to swing in the dirt - strike 3. One down here in the ninth.

You can't blame Serrano for that; he did what was best in the moment; looked to smack that first hit of the game for the '98 Volcanoes. But Serrano is retired and that brings first baseman Jeremy Luster to the plate. It's 9:23 p.m. here at Volcanoes stadium. One down, no one on, the '06 Volcanoes up 4-0; the '98 Volcanoes looking to get their first base runner on in this game.

Witter with the sign and the first delivery from Trinidad -- look out, way inside and that almost hit Luster; I mean folks that was a stick of gum away from getting Luster awarded first base. Wow. Trinidad shakes his head at himself. But disaster averted - at least for the moment - ball 1. 1-0 on Jeremy Luster.

Flash bulbs continue to go off all around the stadium; Trinidad takes a deep breath, Witter with the sign and the delivery from Trinidad; Luster hits a sharp grounder to third; Rohlinger fields in cleanly and throws to first - got him; Two down here in the ninth inning.

At that makes pinch hitter John Summers the last hope for the '98 Volcanoes. The 6'0" from La Mesa California stands in; Witter with the sign and the first offering from Trinidad; curve ball caught the outside of the plate strike 1. 0-1 on Summers. It's 9:30 p.m. here at wonderful Volcanoes Stadium and the '98 Volcanoes are looking for a rally against the so-far perfect '06 Volcanoes.

My colleagues in the booth are giving me the evil eye for talking about it, but folks, this moment is much bigger than any of us and yes; so far 26 '98 Volcanoes have been to plate without reaching base. Witter with the sign and the 0-1 pitch from Trinidad -- swing and a miss strike 2; 0-2 on Trinidad.

And so here we go; the energy in the stadium tonight is simply amazing; Summers takes a deep breath, Trinidad takes a deep breath - heck 4,100 take a deep breath. Witter with the sign and the 0-2 delivery from Trinidad -- Summers hits is high to center field but it is playable; Felmy calls everyone off; Felmy under it and makes the catch; and the '06 Volcanoes are perfect in topping the '98 Volcanoes here to tonight; the score is 4-0. Perfection! Perfect game! Perfect game!

Unbelievable! Simply and totally unbelievable. Tim Lincecum, Jesse English and Juan Trinidad combine on a perfect game; all the '06 Volcanoes are out in field but also showing the complete respect afforded the '98 Volcanoes. Both teams are forever a part of the Salem-Keizer history for bringing championships their respect seasons, but tonight it is perfection for the '06 Volcanoes.

Fans it has been such an honor to call this game tonight and I look forward to calling more fantasy Volcanoes games throughout the winter months. Remember, if you enjoyed this game you will definitely love seeing the real thing; so order those season tickets today, visit the Volcanoes pro shop and consider becoming a loyal sponsor. Fan Alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball top of the ninth inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '06 Volcanoes and the '98 Volcanoes.

Top of the ninth inning here at Volcanoes Stadium and the '06 Volcanoes look to expand on their lead. Benjamin Miller takes the mound for the '98 Volcanoes. Miller is a versatile relief pitcher - obviously this isn't a save situation, but in this game, coming back from a 4-run deficit in the ninth, while difficult is not impossible - especially when two Volcanoes championship teams face off head-to-head.

Adam Witter bats first here, top of the ninth; what an amazing game Witter has called behind the plate tonight; regardless of what happens in the bottom of the ninth; I'm quite sure he will carry this positive experience the rest of his professional career. Witter takes two practice swings, stands in; Serrano with the sign and the initial offering from Miller; Witter takes all the way, strike 1. You gotta know how lucky the 4,100 strong must feel to have a ticket to tonight's game. Is there anything better than Volcanoes baseball?

Serrano with the sign and the 0-1 delivery; Witter fouls it straight back; strike 2. 0-2 on the catcher for the '06 Volcanoes. Witter takes a deep breath; he looks exhausted and who could blame him? Serrano with the sign and the 0-2 pitch, low and away ball 1. 1-2 on Witter.

You have to wonder if Witter truly is able to detach himself from thinking about catching the bottom of the ninth - I don't know how any catcher; Northwest League or Major League batting in this situation could only completely think about the moment.

Serrano again with the sign and the 1-2 pitch from Miller, swing and a miss strike 3; one down here in the top of the ninth.

Fans, the Pro Shop at Volcanoes Stadium will open at 5:00am this Friday, November 26th, for eager shoppers to have the first and best selection of  highly collectible and valued items from the 2010 World Series

Bobby Felmy up next; the center fielder is 1-2 in the game with a home run; Serrano with the sign and Miller's delivery -- way high, ball one. 1-0 on Felmy. Miller is all business out there, just as if his '98 Volcanoes were clinging to a 1-0 lead with the bases loaded.

Serrano with the sign and the 1-0 -- swing and a miss strike 1. 1-1 on Felmy. Temperatures getting a little cooler tonight but still a great day for baseball. Miller's 1-1 delivery; Felmy grounds to third base; Toracto fields it cleanly and throws to first; two down here in the top of the ninth.

That brings Mike McBryde to the plate; McBryde may not have a hit yet tonight but he has preserved perfection so far with one of the great catches you will see all season. McBryde stands in and the initial offering from Miller; just outside the plate, ball 1. 1-0 on McBryde. Miller takes a deep breath and stands in. McBryde with a practice swing; Serrano with the sign and the 1-0 pitch, swing and a miss strike 2. 1-2 on McBryde. Now the crowd cheers on both pitcher and batter in only how an exhibition can bring two championship teams together; Miller with the pitch; swing and a miss strike 3. Wow.
