Fan alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball game #2: bottom of the fifth inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '01 Volcanoes and the '08 Volcanoes.

Merry Christmas from Volcanoes Stadium, I'm Justin Lacche here in the booth; bottom of the fifth inning with the '08 Volcanoes leading the '01 Volcanoes, 2-1.

Ari Ronick returns to the mound; no action yet in either bull pen but I imagine both pitchers are on specific pitch counts. Left fielder Matt Huntingford starts off the inning; Huntingford 1-1 so far with the lone RBI for the '01 Volcanoes.

Posey with the sign and the initial offering from Ronick -- down the middle of the plate, strike 1. 0-1 on Huntingford. Much like the first game of the Volcanoes Fantasy Baseball League, in which the '06 Volcanoes topped the '98 Volcanoes 4-0, the pace of this game is quite fast, especially for an exhibition.

Posey with the sign and the 0-1 pitch -- fouled straight back, strike 2. 0-2 on Huntingford. I've been impressed with how Ronick has handled the pressure so far in the game. Posey gives the sign and the 0-2 pitch from Ronick -- way low and outside, ball 1. 1-2 on Matt Huntingford.

Another impressive areas has been the patience that batters have shown, for the most part, in this game, meaning you can tell they take this game seriously. Posey gives the sign and Ronick's 1-2 to Huntingford -- swing and a miss strike 3. Very good curve ball; and there is one down here in the bottom of the fifth inning.

That brings right fielder Micah Holst to the plate. Holst 0-1 so far in the game. Ronick's first delivery; high and inside, ball 1. 1-0 on Holst. It is hard to believe it is Christmas day, a very Happy Holidays best wishes from the entire Volcanoes organization.

Posey gives the sign and the 1-0 pitch -- popped him up, first base side; Casey Bond waves everyone off and Bond makes the catch. Two down in the bottom of the fifth inning. And you know that Ronick needs to be feeling very confident with his game the way things are progressing now.

Third baseman Julian Benavidez comes to the plate. Benavidez is looking for his first hit of the game and stands in; the first offering from Ronick is high and outside ball 1. 1-0 on Benavidez. Absolutely amazing crowd here today; another packed crowd here at Volcanoes stadium.

Posey with the sign and the 1-0 pitch to Benavidez; swing and a miss strike 1. 1-1 on the third baseman. Fans, remember, now is the time to get your season tickets for the exciting 2011 season. Volcanoes baseball - champions start here.

Ronick stands in a takes a deep breath. Benavidez moves his head side to side and takes a slow practice swing. Posey with the sign and the 1-1 delivery to Benavidez -- slow roller to third base; this is going to be close -- Flores sprints in, fields the ball, rockets it to first. Loberg snags in - AMAZING grab - wow; this was as close as you can get; only a half step to spare. Benavidez looks to the skies and can only shake his head.

Three up and three down in a very exciting Volcanoes Fantasy Baseball game here; and at the end of 5 innings, the score remains the '08 Volcanoes 2, the '01 Volcanoes 1. Now for a fews words from our loyal sponsors.

Fan alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball game #2: top of the fifth inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '01 Volcanoes and the '08 Volcanoes.

Top of the fifth inning here at Volcanoes Stadium; I'm Justin Lacche for the Volcanoes Fantasy Baseball League and we have another exciting battle between two past championship Volcanoes teams.

Fans remember, you still have time to shop Volcanoes - bring home a piece of the magic - visit your Volcanoes store today.

Francisco Liriano back out on the mound, his '01 Volcanoes trailing 2-1; and the '08 Volcanoes send Casey Bond to the plate. The left fielder is 0-1 today; Anderson with the sign and the first delivery from Liriano; low and inside, ball 1. 1-0 on Bond. Take away two monster at-bats from Buster Posey and Liriano has been very sharp. Of course, take away most monster performances by any batter and most games have an entirely different tone.

Anderson with the sign and the 1-0 pitch, high and outside, ball 2. 2-0 on Bond who has been in no rush to swing at off pitches this at bat. Anderson fires the ball back the ball to Liriano who takes a deep breath; Bond steps in and the 2-0 pitch, just missed the outside corner of the plate, 3-0 on Bond. Liriano shakes his head at himself. There have been three pitches outside of the plate so this is all on the pitcher.

Bond steps in; I doubt he will have the green light but you never know. Liriano is set and the 3-0 pitch -- way high, ball 4. A four-pitch-walk for Casey Bond. Not a very good showing for Liriano against Bond, let's see what he can do against first baseman Mike Loberg.

So big Mike stands in and the initial offering on Loberg; swing and a miss, strike 1. 0-1 on Loberg. Sometimes it is the simple act of getting a strike that makes all the difference for a pitcher. Anderson snaps the ball back to Liriano who stands in and the 0-1 pitcher; chopper to the shortstop this could be two: Miranda to DeMains for one, and over to Carter for two. Double play, and Loberg snaps his helmet off his head in disappointment.

Folks this is how the pendulum of baseball emotions work. Just like that there are two down in the top of the fifth inning. Now coming to the plate is Francisco Peguero; the right fielder looking for his first hit of the game. Liriano stands in and the initial delivery, fouled straight back, strike 1. 0-1 on Peguero.

Loberg still fuming in the dugout over the last play. Anderson with the sign and the 0-1 pitch from Liriano; swing and a miss strike 2. 0-2 on Peguero. Liriano looking to take control of the inning now and the 0-2 pitch to Peguero, caught the inside corner strike 3. Wow, what a turn around!

Three up and three down thanks to the double play and after four-and-a-half innings, the score remains the '08 Volcanoes 2, the '01 Volcanoes 1. Stay tuned for more exciting action from the Volcanoes Fantasy Baseball League.

Fan alert: Volcanoes fantasy baseball game #2: bottom of the fourth inning

Does the 2011 season seem too far away? Never fear, we have you covered. Welcome to Volcanoes Watching exclusive coverage of a fantasy baseball game between the '01 Volcanoes and the '08 Volcanoes.

On to the bottom of the fourth here at Volcanoes Stadium and folks we have a great game: the '08 Volcanoes lead the '01 Volcanoes 2-1. Baseball is a funny animal, especially in a one-game exhibition but it is safe to say that the '01 Volcanoes are favorites in this game.

Back on the mound for the '08 Volcanoes is Ari Ronick who looks to keep momentum for his squad. Batting first in this inning for the '01 Volcanoes is the second baseball, Derin McMains; McMains is 0-1 so far in this contest. Posey with the sign and the initial offering by Ronick; catches the inside corner, strike one. 0-1 on McMains; Ronick may not have the most dominant stuff in all of Minor League Baseball but he exudes that "it" quality that you see from pitchers in The Show - for whatever that is worth.

Posey with the sign and the 0-1 pitch; high and inside ball 1. 1-1 on McMains; it is great seeing all of our season ticket holders out here tonight; another electric sold out Volcanoes game tonight. Ronick stands in; McMains takes a practice swing; Posey with the sign and the 1-1 pitch: swing and a miss, strike 2; nasty slider on McMains and the count rounds 1-2 on the second baseball.

Posey snaps the ball back to Ronick, the pitcher stands in and the 1-2 pitch; oh, just a little low; ball two. 2-2 on McMains; that was just a hair outside, if that. 2-2 count on the second baseball McMains; Ronick stands in, Posey with the sign and the 2-2 pitch: struck him out swinging. One away. Simple but effective 92-mile-per-hour fastball.

So one down here in the inning at that brings up Tyler Von Schnell to the plate; Tyler looking for his first hit of the game, stands in. Ronick's initial pitch; big swing and a foul back, strike 1. 0-1 on Von Schell; that was about 2 inches away from being a souvenir for a fan in the outfield. Monster swing. Wow.

Posey snaps the ball back to Ronick now gives the sign and the 0-1 pitch; swing and a miss strike 2. Von Schnell looks like he is auditioning for a home run derby. If he connects, forget about it. But now he has to be careful; Ronick stands in; Posey with the sign and the 0-2 delivery; freezes Von Schell strike 3. Struck him out; what a wild at bat for Von Schell; he'll need to take a step back and re-think things before his next plate appearance.

So two down here in the bottom of the fourth inning and Bryan Carter, the center fielder is at the plate. Ronick is now in a very good rhythm; I also give credit to Posey for guiding his pitcher through some rough goings early on. Carter stands in; Posey with the sign and the first pitch: easy chopper to third - Benavides fields it quickly and throws to first - in plenty of time and just like that the side is retired in order.

As we go to the top of the fifth inning at Volcanoes Stadium, the score remains the '08 Volcanoes 2, the '01 Volcanoes 1. And now for a few words from our loyal sponsors.
