Big blue tops Giants 2-1

The Los Angeles Dodgers topped the 2010 World Champion Giants 2-1 on Opening Day.


Tim Lincecum took the hard luck loss going 7 innings, only giving up 1 unearned run on 5 hits with 5 strike outs; Tim allowed four hits the first 2 innings and then settled down; he is our Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Buster Posey went 1-for-4; Pablo Sandoval started the season 1-for-3 and Nate Schierholtz got in the game as a pinch runner.

Jonathan Sanchez takes the mound tomorrow as the Giants (0-1) play the Dodgers (1-0) in game 2 of the series starting at 7:15 p.m. PST. Volcanoes baseball - champions start here.

One last tune-up; then they play for real

Staff full of Volcanoes, the 2010 World Champion Giants are now one last exhibition game away from starting the Regular Season at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It was a great spring for the Giants, who at time of publication won 21 games and counting. Established players, including 7 Volcanoes currently on the 25-man roster, all got needed practice time; and more than a dozen Volcanoes prospects go some touch with the Big League club.

Tim Lincecum takes the mound Thursday, Opening Night, at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Going into his fifth season, Tim already has an impressive career record of 56-27 with 901 strikeouts and a 3.04 career ERA.

This spring, the national media featured all seven Volcanoes on the 25-man roster at some point, giving baseball fans from Salem, Oregon to Salem, Massachusetts the chance to learn more about

Giants getting last spring warm up: battle A's

The 2010 World Champs are opting for some last Spring Training games as Opening Day now is roughly 72 hours away.

At time of publication, the Giants were leading Oakland 4-3; Volcanoes alum Buster Posey was 2-for-3 with a RBI (his 12th of the spring) with a run scored. Buster raised his Cactus League batting average to .422 and was the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Steve Edlefsen (SKV'07) pitched a perfect 2/3rd of an inning with 1 strikeout.

Volcanoes shine as Giants get 20th win of spring

Ryan Vogelsong got his third win of the spring and Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-4 with a RBI as the Giants topped the Tribe 8-5 on late Saturday action; the win was the 20th for the 2010 World Champs.

Nick is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game; Ryan also got valuable innings going 4 and 2/3rds inning, yielding 3 earned runs but striking out 5.

The Giants stand in 2011 Cactus League play with a 20-12 record and now make final preparations for the 2011 Regular Season this Thursday at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Giants win 19th spring game - top Reds

Pablo Sandoval went 1-for-3 as the Giants topped the Reds 9-6; the win was the 2010 World Champs' 19th of the spring - currently tops in Major League Baseball.

Pablo is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

As the Giants finish the home stretch of exhibition play, the team prepares for Opening Night on Thursday at the Dodgers.

Posey featured on ESPN's Baseball Tonight

Volcanoes alumn Buster Posey was interviewed live for five minutes during ESPN's Friday night coverage of Baseball Tonight.

The 2010 NL Rookie of the Year sounded very much like an elder statesman of the game: praising team mates and coaching staff for his development.

Posey told the Baseball Tonight crew that the Giants are very hungry to continue their momentum in 2011 and the team is taking every game loose but intense.

Posey continues to lead Giants spring batting

Volcanoes alum Buster Posey continues his great spring, getting another hit against Cleveland tonight to raise his Cactus League batting average to .415. That tops all Giants players this spring (minimum 20 at bats)

The 2010 NL Rookie of the Year is also first in slugging (.744) second in home runs this spring (3) and second in RBI (10)

Angels blank Giants but Posey perfect at plate

The LA Angels topped the 2010 World Champs 8-0; but Volcanoes alum Buster Posey again shined going 2-for-2 at the plate. Buster is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Buster is batting .410 this spring with 16 hits in 39 at-bats, 3 home runs and 10 RBI.

The Volcanoes alum is also credited with showing great leadership to the pitching staff and Giants prospects.

Giants back in action tomorrow - look to keep momentum

The 2010 World Champs are back in action tomorrow, looking to build on a strong spring that has had plenty of wins and great experience for up-and-coming players.

The Giants are 18-8 and in first place in the Cactus League. True that in spring the key is staying healthy and getting the organization a chance to see up-and-coming players -- but winning cures everything and the champs still look hungry for more.

Rain cancel game, but Lincecum get his innings

You don't see this every spring: rain nixed the Giants / Rockies game but not before Tim Lincecum got 61 pitches in over 2 1/3 innings.

Volcanoes alumni Emmanuel Burriss was designated to Minor League camp today, but expect to see him with the big club in September. Emmanuel worked hard this spring batting .226 with 6 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 18 games.

Giants KO KC 3-1; Posey goes yard again

Buster Posey went yard for the third time this spring as the Giants topped Kansas City 3-1; this victory propelled the 2010 World Champs to an 18-6 Cactus League record - tops in all of baseball.

Buster is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game; he is batting over .400 in spring action to-date.

Sergio Romo pitched a perfect 1/3rd of an inning tonight. Sergio continues his magnificent spring with a 1.23 ERA.

Dodgers to Giants 6-3; Rohlinger shines in loss

The Dodgers topped the Giants 6-3; Volcanoes alum Ryan Rohlinger (SKV '06) had a great game for the 2010 World Champs going 2-for-3 (triple) with a RBI. Ryan is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Ryan is having a very solid spring campaign so far, batting .333 in 14 games, 21 at-bats. He also is only 1 of 8 Giants to hit a triple during 2011 Cactus League play.

Ryan Vogelsong took the loss (2 runs, 4 hits in 3 innings) but got in three innings of play and still has a sharp 2.79 ERA this spring. This spring, Ryan is second on the Giants in innings pitched (15.2).

Travis Ishikawa had a single and scored a run tonight.

Giants ground Angels 4-0

The 2010 World Champs won their 17th contest of the spring, grounding the Angels 4-0. The Giants continue their league-leading win total of the Exhibition Season.

Jonathan Sanchez was again unstoppable going 6 innings yielding only 1 hit. Amazing spring for Sanchez. Pablo Sandoval was equally dominant - from the plate, Pablo went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and scored a run. Jonathan and Pablo are Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Buster Posey went 1-for-2 and is batting .400 through the first 22 games of the spring.

The 2010 World Champs are an amazing 17-5 this spring with Volcanoes helping in every single victory so far.

Lincecum strikes again! Giants top ChiSox 5-3

Tim Lincecum won his third game of the spring as the Giants topped the ChiSox 5-3; the victory improves the 2010 World Champs to 16-5 in Cactus League play.

Tim was in mid-season form going 5 1/3 innings, striking out 7 and only yielding 1 run; Tim is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Nick Schierholtz had a great night going 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run. Ryan Rohlinger and Emmanuel Burriss each had a hit.

Giants leading D'Backs through seven innings

At time of publication, the 2010 World Champs are leading Arizona 4-3 through 7 innings.

It's been quite a day for the entire Giants organization and all Volcanoes Nation as Jerry Walker announced the World Series Trophy will be in town July 9 for a special VIP audience of Season Ticket holders, Package Ticket holders and media.

Sandoval goes yard; Brew Crew top Giants

Milwaukee topped the Giants 12-8; the game saw plenty of Volcanoes continue to shine though. Pablo Sandoval hit his 3rd home run of the spring and was named the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

If Pablo keeps this pace up; he would hit 25 home runs during the regular season.

Buster Posey was 1-for-2 with a double. Nate Schierholtz had a pinch hit;  Thomas Neal (SVK '06) scored a run as did Emmanuel Burriss (SVK '06). Steve Edlefsen (SKV '07) pitched a perfect 8th inning.

Vogelsong shuts down Rangers in spring Fall Classic rematch

Ryan Vogelsong (SKV '06) won his second game of the spring as the 2010 World Champs again topped Texas 11-9 in Cactus League action. The win was the Giants league-leading 14th this spring campaign.

Ryan, the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game, yielded only 2 runs in 4 innings in a high-scoring affair.

Pablo Sandoval and Nate Schierholtz had monster games at the plate: Pablo went 2-for-3 (triple) with a RBI and a stolen base! Nate went 2-for-3 (home run) with 2 RBI.

And the Rangers went back out to bus saying, "what do we have to do to beat the Giants?!?"

Volcanoes help Giants score 2 in 9th to stun Dodgers

Volcanoes alumni Thomas Neal (SKV '06) and Gary Brown (SKV '10) led a Giants two-out, ninth inning rally as the 2010 World Champs stunned the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-7; the win was the Giants league-leading 13th this exhibition campaign.

It might have been spring ball but this game had all the makings of a heavyweight MMA fight. The game was tied 2-2 after 2 innings; then the Giants surged to a 6-3 lead after 6 innings before the Dodgers stormed back with a four-run seventh inning to take a 7-6 inning.

The Giants appeared out of time in the bottom of the ninth but delivered two-out heroics thanks to the likes of Neal and Brown who both are Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Dan Runzler (SKV '10) pitched 3 strong innings only allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits. Steve Edlefsen (SKV '07) pitched a perfect 8th.

Francisco Peguero (SKV '08, '09) also had a hit tonight in a great continuation of the historic and heated Giants / Dodgers rivalry.

Lincecum, Giants to Padres 6-4 in front of national audience

Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants didn't disappoint the national audience on the MLB Network as the defending champs downed the Padres 6-4. The win was the Giants' league-leading 12th of the spring campaign.
Tim got his second win of the spring and is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game posting a final line of: 4 innings, 4 strikeouts and 1 earned run allowed.

Emmanuel Burris was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI; Pablo Sandoval was 1-for-4 with a run and a great defensive stop in the third inning; Travis Ishikawa was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Giants route Reds 7-0. Volcanoes hit doubles, shut down opposing batters

Pablo Sandoval went 1-for-3 with a double and Ryan Rohlinger had a double himself as the Giants blanked the Reds 7-0. The win was the league-leading 11th in spring action for the 2010 World Champs.

Ryan continues his strong hitting and is showing his new fitness is paying off great dividends. Ryan is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Sergio Romo pitched another scoreless inning - look for Sergio to be a critical part of the Giants pitching staff this season.

Giants top ChiSox - first to 10 wins this spring

Buster Posey went 1-for-2 with a RBI as the Giants topped the Chicago White Sox 4-2 tonight, making the 2010 World Champs the first in baseball to win 10 games this spring campaign. Gary Brown (SKV '10) scored a run.
Buster is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Despite the teams scoring 6 runs it really was a pitchers game (only 5 hits total by the Giants) but this is baseball, not horse shoes and the most runs means we get the win.

M's top Giants 1-0; Vogelsong has another strong start

ESPN may not decide the Giants line up but it sure speaks volumes that the mega sport outlet highlighted Ryan Vogelsong tonight.

Vogelsong allowed only one run in 3 2/3 innings to lower his Cactus League era to 1.04. It turned out 1 run was all the Mariners needed tonight but Ryan again made his mark in his push for an opening day roster spot in The Show. Ryan is our Volcanoes Alumni of the Game.

The Giants managed only 4 hits today; Nick Schierholtz was 1-for-2 with a double;

Back to the future: Giants top Rangers in spring rematch of Fall Classic

Rangers fans looking for some healing were again left disappointed as the Giants topped Texas 4-1 in Cactus League action.

The game just ended and Jonathan Sanchez went another 4 strong innings yielding only 1 run to lower his spring era to 2.08!. Sanchez is the Volcanoes Watching player of the game.

Pablo Sandoval went 1-for-3 and scored a run; Travis Ishikawa also went 1-for-3.

Score alert: Lincecum in mid-season form; Giants roll over M's

Wow! Tim Lincecum struck out 7 Mariners in only 3 2/3 innings as the Giants topped Seattle 6-1 in Cactus League action.

Tim was simply masterful earning his first win of the pre-season but put together a third strong performance of the exhibition campaign as the Giants went on to improve their spring record to 8-3. Tim is the Volcanoes Watching Alumni of the Game.

Supporting Tim tonight was Alex Hinshaw who was perfect in 1/3 inning; Sergio Romo had another scoreless inning - Sergio looks too to be mid-season form and Wilmin Rodriguez pitched an inning, walked two but not allowing a run.
