Lamb's win puts Heat into ABL Finals

Cameron Lamb (Volcanoes '11) has said all season the Perth Heat are about the team and not about him; still, no denying that the humble, team-first Volcanoes alum came through clutch again and sent his team to the ABL Championship Series starting later this week.

Perth beat a hard-fighting Melbourne squad 3-1 last night to clinch the best-of-five series 3-1. Cameron improved to 6-1 and his overall ERA is under 1.50. Cameron also has a dominant 19:4 strike out to walk ratio.

We're back! Volcanoes alumni help Giants to 2012 National League West title

A long list of Salem-Keizer Volcanoes stepped up throughout the 2012 season to help the San Francisco Giants win the 2012 National League West Championship - the second in three years, and eighth since the inception of the NL West. The Giants return to the 2012 MLB playoffs which start in two week.

The Giants are in the National League Division Series which will be the "Final Four" of the National League. Their series start date will either be Saturday October 6 or Sunday, October 7 and opponent is still yet to be determined.

Sergio Romo clinched the '12 NL West title

The Giants still have reason to play well with respect to playoff seeding which could come into play in later rounds of the National League playoffs (the NL will have home field advantage in the 2012 World Series by virtue of the All-star game result).

This early clinch also gives the team time to make strategic decisions of when to rest players or schedule their time to align with the upcoming playoffs.

Believe! Volcanoes alumni heading back to World Series

At least six Salem-Keizer Volcanoes alumni are heading back to the World Series as the 2012 National League Champion San Francisco Giants topped the 2011 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. The World Series starts Wednesday with the Giants hosting the 2012 American League Champion Detroit Tigers.

Volcanoes Watching and all your official Salem-Keizer Volcanoes social media sites will be bringing you all the exclusive stories of your Volcanoes in the Fall Classic -- but for one moment let's take pause on this amazing journey when this team won all six elimination games against two wonderful franchises: the Cincinnati Reds and the Cardinals. Most of us aged about 28 years watching our Volcanoes alumni in this post season and perhaps the gift now is we can just to enjoy this majesty and thrill of being in another World Series.

This National League Championship Series was the epic battle that most everyone wanted and produced seven games that each time showed why one of these two are the last couple of World Champions.

Neither team lost a playoff series since 2010 and it seemed even with a nine-run lead in the ninth, the skies opened as if to try and extended this a little while more. In the end, this magnificent Giants team completed their sixth must-win journey to claim the NL Pennant.

We look forward to sharing, savoring and discussing every moment of this World Series against a loaded, smart, deep Detroit club.

To all of our amazing Volcanoes fans, thank you for continuing to create an amazing home field advantage where young men come to start their careers and some even crossing the chalk to the fields of the World Series.

Absolutely amazing!

Volcanoes invited to participate in World Series Victory Parade

In the early morning hours after their second World Championship in three years, the 2012 World Series Champions, Yeshayah Goldfarb of the San Francisco Giants called Jerry Walker from Detroit, Michigan, and formally asked Jerry and his family to be an official part of the Giants victory parade in downtown San Francisco on October 31, 2012.

Hundreds-of-thousands Giants fans are expected to be in attendance and will see the Jerry, Lisa, their son, Mickey, and yes, Crater too, as part of this historic celebration. Mickey was also a bat boy earlier in the season for the World Champions. In addition, Rick Nelson, VP of Operations for the Volcanoes since their inaugural season, will be on hand for the special event.

“It’s a true and humbling honor to be a part of this incredible celebration; we head down on behalf of the entire Volcanoes family who, going into our 17th season, have been so supportive, loyal and encouraging to our players, coaches and front office staff,” Walker said. “When Lisa, Mickey, Rick, Crater and I, go down the streets San Francisco on Wednesday, believe me, all of the Volcanoes family will be on our minds. We would not be here if not for the great fan, sponsor and community support we've received over the years," noted Walker.

Walker saluted the Giants organization for continuing to send top prospects every season to play for Salem-Keizer. Earlier this year, both parties agreed to extend their relationship through the 2014 season. The agreement, which calls for the Giants to stock the Volcanoes with their prospects, now extends the affiliation between the parties to a total of 20 years that began in September, 1994.

“We are extremely happy about our association with the World Champion Giants,” said Walker. “We’ve had a stretch of very good clubs here in Salem-Keizer winning our Division Championship in 4 consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). Our fans appreciate the association with the Giants as many of our fans are lifelong Giants fans,” noted Walker.

The Giants executive team echoed those sentiments saying: "The Giants have enjoyed being a part of the Salem-Keizer community and have particularly appreciated the commitment of the Volcanoes' ownership and management team in the assistance they provide in helping us develop our young players," said Giants Vice President of Baseball Operations Bobby Evans. "We look forward to continuing an already great association with the Volcanoes.”

June 2013 Volcanoes home games plenty of action

When the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes host their home games in June, 2013, there will be plenty of subplots to follow.
14-16 vs. HILLSBORO (affiliate Arizona Diamondbacks)
This will be the first time the new Hillsboro club sends a team down I-5 and this has the makings of one of the most electric and constructive Minor League rivalries between Salem-Keizer, Hillsboro and Eugene; all three teams along with Boise are now a part of the Northwest League South Division.
There is also the affiliation competition as the Volcanoes are part of the 2010, 2012 World Champion San Francisco Giants and the Hops are with the 2011 NL West Champion, Arizona Diamondbacks.
20-24 vs. VANCOUVER (affiliate Toronto Blue Jays)
This is a great series because it brings the two-time consecutive Northwest League Champions to Volcanoes Stadium and as the Volcanoes make their push to return to the NWL playoffs in 2013 this home stand is really critical for both teams; especially with the desire to lock up a playoff spot during the first half of the season.

New NWL Division creates great subplot

Volcanoes Nation: One of the many exciting products of the new Northwest League's North and South divisions is there will be a de facto Oregon professional baseball champion every year based on who finishes best in the South Division. And while in the official Minor League ranks there isn't a sub-champion, this new divisional structure creates almost a "Pac-12" conference rivalry for the three  I-5 Oregon-based teams.

With Yakima ’s relocation to Hillsboro , the 2013 Northwest League Schedule will feature a revised Divisional Alignment with a South Division with your Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Eugene, Hillsboro along Boise; a North Division features Vancouver, BC , Everett , Tri City and Spokane.

The Volcanoes complete 2013 Home schedule:

A Very Crater Christmas

T'was the night before Christmas,
The night couldn't be later,
Santa came over Salem-Keizer,
And first said "hi" to Crater.

Volcanoes Stadium was the spot,
Where Reindeer took quick break,
To get the presents ready,
For local deliveries to make.

On cookie, on coco, on holiday cheer,
Santa looked at the field, "Spring Training is near"

Then St. Nick tipped his cap,
And gave Crater his gift,
It's the joy of all Volcanoes fans,
Spirits for any mascot will lift.

Merry Christmas
~ Crater, 2012
T'was la noche antes de Navidad,
La noche no podía ser más tarde,
Papá se acercó Salem-Keizer,
Y primero dijo "hola" a Crater.

¡Feliz Navidad

Less than a month before Spring Training invites

Christmas is coming up; but the real baseball present for many Salem-Keizer Volcanoes alumni will come in about a month -- that's when the 2010, 2012 World Champion San Francisco Giants announce their 20-25 non-roster invites to Spring Training.

Now with the countdown, we can expect many of the Volcanoes on this list to get their latest shot of playing Spring Training games with Major League players and perhaps either get on the 25-man roster or get a September call up. With the Giants commitment to promoting within, this will be the moment that will make future Giants.

Last year's super 25 included: catchers Tommy Joseph, Andrew Susac and Jackson Williams; infielders Joaquin Arias, Chris Dominguez, Nick Noonan and Joe Panik; and outfielders Gregor Blanco, Gary Brown, and Juan Perez; right-handed pitchers Jake Dunning, Justin Fitzgerald, Austin Fleet, Stephen Harrold, Heath Hembree, Andrew Kown, Mitch Lively, Shane Loux, Jean Machi, Seth Rosin and Shawn Sanford; left-handed pitchers Brian Burres, David Quinowski, Wilmin Rodriguez and Matt Yourkin -- more than half were Salem-Keizer Volcanoes alumni.
