Volcanoes Alumni Report: April 30, 2012

The six-time World Champion Giants are back in action tomorrow hosting the Miami Vice Marlins; there is plenty of action tonight though with Volcanoes playing throughout the Giants organization.

Fresno (Triple-A): The Grizzlies (18-6) are hosting Salt Lake tonight; Conor Gillaspie (Volcanoes '08) already has two hits in early action. Conor is batting .325 so far this season (26-for-80).

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (12-12): Daryl Maday (Volcanoes '07) got his fifth save of the season tonight.

San Jose (Advanced-A): The SJ Giants (14-11): are back in action tomorrow in an important series against Stockton.

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (11-12): Paul Davis iVolcamoes '11) improved to 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA as a starter in Augusta.

Week in Review: Volcanoes get Giants over .500

This week was important for the six-time World Champion Giants as Volcanoes alumni got the team over .500 and multiple Volcanoes alumni delivered big wins throughout the Giants Minor League organization. Here are some of the highlights of the week:

April 29, 2012

Pablo Sandoval (Volcanoes '05, World Champion '10) hit his fourth home run of the season tonight as the six-time World Champion Giants topped San Diego 4-1 to win the series. The Giants finish April 12-10, but more notable won five of seven series. The team is back in action on Tuesday hosting the Miami Marlins.

April 28, 2012

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (9-12): two more hits tonight for Shawn Payne (Volcanoes '11) who is batting .370!


April 27, 2012

Pablo "Panda" Sandoval (Volcanoes '05, World Champion '10) hit safely in his 20th consecutive game tonight; as the Giants and Padres are battling in NL West action. Pablo was featured on MLB TV and now has the fourth best hitting streak to start a season in the last 50 years.

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (9-11) Ryan Cavan (Volcanoes '09) hit the winning home run for Richmond tonight!

April 25, 2012

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (8-10): Ben Thomas (Volcanoes '11) had two hits tonight and a RBI.

April 24, 2012

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (8-9): Paul Davis (Volcanoes '11) got the win in long relief tonight.

April 23, 2012

Pablo Sandoval (Volcanoes '05, World Champion '10) hit a monster home run; NASA will issue a report when the ball returns to Earth. Nate Schierholtz (Volcanoes '03, World Champion '10) )had another three-hit night and another triple to raise his batting average to .372! Brett Pill (Volcanoes '06) had two hits.

Volcanoes Alumni Report: April 28, 2012

Tim Lincecum (Volcanoes '08, World Champion '10) had his second solid start this season as the six-time World Champion Giants (11-10, 2nd NL West, one game back for a NL Wild Card) topped the Padres 2-1. Tim finished with an eight-inning, five strikeout, three hits night, where he himself got a hit at the plate.

Nate Schierholtz (Volcanoes '03, World Champion '10) had a hit and scored a critical run tonight; both teams are in action tomorrow.

Looking around the Giants organization:

Fresno (Triple-A): The Grizzlies (17-6):  Dan Otero (Volcanoes '07) got the hold tonight in a Fresno win; Dan has yet to allow a run this year.

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (11-11); two hits tonight for Gary Brown (Volcanoes '10) in the Richmond wins.
  
San Jose (Advanced-A): The SJ Giants (14-10): Alex Burg (Volcanoes '10) had a home run and a double for San Jose tonight.

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets  (9-12): two more hits tonight for Shawn Payne (Volcanoes '11) who is batting .370!

Volcanoes Alumni Report: April 27, 2012

Pablo "Panda" Sandoval (Volcanoes '05, World Champion '10) hit safely in his 20th consecutive game tonight; as the Giants and Padres are battling in NL West action. Pablo was featured on MLB TV and now has the fourth best hitting streak to start a season in the last 50 years.

Fresno (Triple-A): The Grizzlies (16-5): Skyler Stromsmoe (Volcanoes '08) leads the team with four steals.

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (10-11)    Chris Dominguez (Volcanoes '09) had two hits as Richmond beat New Britain in 13 innings tonight.

San Jose (Advanced-A): The SJ Giants (14-9): Phil McCormick (Volcanoes '11) continues to pitch well and has lowered his ERA to 3.00. 

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (8-10): another three hits (double) for Shawn Payne (Volcanoes '11); Shawn is batting .359 with a .558 slugging average!

Volcanoes Alumni Report: April 26, 2012

The six-time World Champion Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds tonight 6-5, scoring three times in the ninth the beat the Reds for the first time since 1893 -- ok, not that long, but it seemed like an eternity. Ryan Vogelsong (Volcanoes '98) hung tough, going six innings, striking out five and yielding four runs in the no-decision. The Giants are home for a three-game set against the Padres starting tomorrow.

Looking around the Giants organization:

Fresno (Triple-A): The Grizzlies (15-5) are up 3-0 over Colorado Springs at time of publication. Conor Gillaspie (Volcanoes '08) has a hit for the Griz.

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (9-11)   Ryan Cavan (Volcanoes '09) hit the winning home run for Richmond tonight!
San Jose (Advanced-A): The SJ Giants (14-9)Jack Snodgrass (Volcanoes '11) improved to 2-1 with a 1.61 era with a win tonight for San Jose. 

Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (8-10):  Joseph Staley (Volcanoes '11) hit a home run in an Augusta win tonight.

Volcanoes Alumni Report: April 25, 2012

The Reds topped the six-time World Champion Giants tonight 4-2; Buster Posey (Volcanoes '08, World Champion '10) had two hits (double); Pablo "Panda" Sandoval  (Volcanoes '05, World Champion '10) tied the Giants all-time record of hitting to start the year after hitting safely in his 18th straight game.

The Giants also announced that Aubrey Huff was put on the 15-day DL with anxiety attacks; Volcanoes Watching salutes Aubrey for sharing this in an effort to raise awareness. Aubrey is a good guy and we wish him a complete, healthy recovery.

For Pablo Sandoval, this new achievement in his wonderful career, has now passed Willie Mays and  Johnny Rucker who started with 16 and 18 hits to start a year.

Looking around the Giants organization:

Fresno (Triple-A): The Grizzlies (15-5), are back in action tomorrow against Colorado Springs (12-8). Fresno is off to one of the best starts in all pro ball!

Richmond (Double-A): The Flying Squirrels (8-11)  return home Friday after a long road trip.

San Jose (Advanced-A): The SJ Giants (13-7): has a double header tomorrow against High Desert (12-8) in the battle of first place teams.
  
Augusta (Class A): The GreenJackets (8-10):  Ben Thomas  (Volcanoes '11) had two hits tonight and a RBI.
