Family renews firm commitment to local community and championship professional baseball
KEIZER -- In another victory for keeping championship Minor League Baseball in this community, the Walker family confirmed today their purchase of 100 percent of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes after completing the purchase of the shares from Bill Tucker. Tucker and Jerry Walker brought their franchise to Salem-Keizer, from Bellingham, Washington, in 1997, as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, and have jointly owned the franchise since 1989.
"Lisa and I are honored that this ownership partnership of 27 years helped contribute to three World Series Championships and six Northwest League pennants; it is one of the great recent runs in Pacific Northwest Minor League baseball and we thank Bill Tucker and his family for their true passion for the game," Jerry Walker said. "The commitment to championships and this community is stronger than ever before."
The full ownership purchase also allows for continuity as Jerry Walker has served as the team's CEO, President and General Manager since its inception and has always been the 'hands on' local owner. Tucker, whom is retiring from baseball, lives on Long Island in New York.
“We embrace our history and fully embrace the future. Our own son, Mickey, has grown up with the Volcanoes; this team, this community is our family," Jerry Walker said. "Lisa and I and our front office staff are working full time planning for our 20th Anniversary Season coming in 2016 and we are personally dedicated to making 2016 a fabulous season. Fans will experience several new Volcanoes Stadium additions for this upcoming season, which further reflect our long-term commitment to Volcanoes Baseball,” concluded Walker.
Volcanoes tickets and merchandise are on sale at the Stadium Team Store at Volcanoes Stadium. The store is open Every Day until Christmas. Fans can also place their orders by calling 503-390-2225 or online at www.volcanoesbaseball.com
